It's important to teach kids about Ruby Bridges for a number of reasons:

- Understanding Civil Rights Movement: Ruby Bridges was a 6-year-old African American girl who helped integrate schools in the South during the Civil Rights Movement. By learning about her life, kids can understand how hard it was to get equal rights for black people and how important the Civil Rights Movement was in making our country what it is today.

- Promoting Diversity and Inclusion: Ruby Bridges' story provides a powerful message of courage and resilience in the face of adversity. It encourages kids to appreciate and celebrate diversity, and promotes understanding and empathy for those who may be different from themselves.

- Inspiring Courage and Perseverance: Ruby Bridges had to deal with a lot of problems and challenges at a young age, but she never gave up on what she believed in. Her story can inspire kids to have the courage to stand up for what they believe in and to never give up, even when faced with opposition.

Overall, telling kids about Ruby Bridges helps them learn more about history, develop empathy and understanding, and be more determined and brave.

A Ruby Bridges School craft can be a fun and educational activity for preschoolers to learn about her story and African- American revolution. Here is a simple way to make a school craft which says I can be courageous like Ruby Bridges

Materials:

Instructions:

  • Grab a Cardstock or construction paper for base
  • Print the Ruby Bridges craft and choose whether you would like to go for the colored version or Ink saver version
  • If you use the colored version, you just need to cut and glue out the Ruby Bridges character, Bus and Name on a construction paper
  • If you go with ink saver version, first color all the pieces and then cut and glue them together.
  • Talk to your preschoolers  about Ruby Bridges  and her courageous acts for equality.

This craft activity is a fun way for preschoolers to learn about Ruby Bridges and the Civil Rights Movement, and to engage in hands-on learning about history and diversity. You can also check out more cute crafts for black history month in my TPT Store.
